REVIEW
From the moment you walk in the door of Burdeos in Love you just know that you are in for a treat. The decor is a mix of antique and modern minimalist. Soft lighting and a cool soundtrack, so unusual in Valencia, where the ambience is usually created by flickering florescent tubes and the sound of people talking so loudly that it is hard to hear your own conversation. There are antique chandeliers and large modern white shades and the ceilings have been left in all the iced cake glory. There is a choice of seating - at low tables or on stools at high versions. You can see through a large hatch at the rear of the bar to a kitchen that seems far too small to prepare food of the quality they serve here.

It is literally just off the Plaza de la Reina and could so easily be lackluster and be aimed only at the tourist trade, but there is obvious pride in the food and the service and the fact that it is regularly full is testament to their hard work. We have been several times over the years and have always found the food, the wine and the service excellent.

Last time we ate here we tried the Menu Degustacion, or Taster menu, great value at 35€ a head. There are three menus on offer each evening, the others weigh in at 26€, 30€ and at lunch, Monday to Friday there is a Menu del Dia at 17€

Looking around the restaurant, it is obvious this night as with other visits, that this is a favourite haunt of couples wanting a romantic dinner. The food here is Mediterranean with smatterings of the cuisine of the Far East. The menu we chose is three courses with wine, there are four choices for the starter and main courses and two for the dessert. To start, I had a Pastel de foie y queso de cabra con manzana caramelizada (a little pastry of foie and goat's cheese with caramelized apple), and D tried the oriental Rollitos crujientes de gambas y puerros con salsa agripicante (Spring rolls filled with prawns and leek with a hot and sour dipping sauce. The main course was difficult to choose from, there was a Tortellini de trufa y parmesano en salsa de gorgonzola (Truffle tortellini with parmesan and a gorgonzola sauce), Carrillada de ternera en su jugo con patatas crujientes (Beef cheek braised and served in its juice and served with crunchy potatoes, Lubina a la plancha con salsa de langosta (Grilled sea bass with lobster sauce), or a Carpaccio de ternera relleno de gorgonzola (A gorgonzola stuffed Carpaccio of beef). D took the fish route and me, the cheek of beef. It's a lovely cut of meat and is so succulent when done well, which this was. D declared her Lubina to be quite lovely!

Desserts are not our strong point, but we always try (and, funnily enough, usually polish off) something, the choice of two, Tarta de chocolate blanco y negro (Black and White Chocolate Cake) and Tarta de yogurt con confitura de cereza (a yoghurt cake with cherry conserve) made it an easy decision - one of each! Both were rich and delicious and a medium portion of each rounded off a delightful meal perfectly.

We both had a good Valencian red house wine, and coffee to finish.

I can highly recommend Burdeos in Love for a relaxed and delicious meal at reasonable prices.
